It has been a long time since I made cut out cookies and I have never made a gingerbread house. IMG_1775So I decided to take part in this Good Cook Kitchen Expert Project. I had a lot of fun making my house and decorating.

The first thing I did was mix up the dough using the recipe on the box. After mixing it up - I needed to chill it for 2 hours. I tried to cheat and roll out the dough with out chilling it - but it didn’t work, the chilling of the dough is important.

After the dough chilled I rolled it out on a floured board. I used the Sweet Creations by Good Cook Haunted House Cookie Cutter to cut all the pieces out and baked them. It sure brought back memories of growing up and making cookies and frosting them with my sisters. The kit came with the roof walls and front of house along with a roller and a couple stamps. My kitchen smelled so yummy! I just love the ginger and cinnamon smell.IMG_1780

I let the dough cool on the wire racks overnight. Then the fun starts! The next thing I did is decorate my house. I wasn’t very good at the icing but it was fun. I used a bunch of different things to decorate - icing, candy, fruit strips and some fun cut-outs I found at the store. After decorating the cookie pieces I left it dry for a short time.

Rex and I agreed we were not going to eat our house so instead of using icing to hold my house together I used hot glue. IMG_1786I had a little problem with the roof - but otherwise I think it turned out pretty good. Here is the front view. My witch is welcoming everyone in for some tricks or treats!IMG_1783

I had so much fun building and decorating my house. I bet it would be so fun to do with your kids or grand-kids. My house wasn’t perfect, but after all it is a haunted house. I felt good that I accomplished building my house and was glad to use the Sweet Creations Haunted House Cookie Cutter.
