This year I wanted to find some things that are fun but are good for kids for my Gift Guide. It is so important that kids do more than sit in front of a video game, TV or computer all day.
I found The ABCs of Yoga for Kids 2015 Calendar created by multiple-award winning yoga instructor, Teresa Power. The ABCs of Yoga for Kids uses the alphabet, rhyming vignettes, and colorful illustrations to introduce children to yoga in a kid-friendly way. Each of the fifty-six different poses featured in the book delightfully promote flexibility, strength, and coordination while encouraging children to incorporate healthy activity into their daily lives. Yoga is a noncompetitive form of exercise, suitable for children (and adults) of all ages and athletic abilities. Any activity for young children is important because the nation, including our
youth, is under siege by obesity, stress, and diseases like diabetes, which stem from poor diet and lack of exercise. Yoga for young kids will create good habits and a foundation for well-being. Children have a lot of fun learning new positions, new letters, and new ideas. This book will delight and bring joy to the early yoga practitioner.
Along with the calendar I have this DVD Yoga Adventures with Down Dog A Yoga Alphabet Play Date. Yoga Adventures with Down Dog is an interactive DVD where children will learn not only yoga postures, but also the alphabet, letter recognition, and spelling as well. Kids will delight in singing yoga songs, practicing simple yoga poses, and using letters of the alphabet to have fun and feel great while developing life skills at the same time.
Both of these products are from Author Teresa Anne Power. Teresa Anne Power, avid yoga practitioner for twenty-eight years, is the author of the multiple award-winning book The ABCs of Yoga for Kids and creator of Yoga Adventures with Down Dog, a children’s yoga DVD. For the past nine years she has taught yoga to young children, both in schools and at local organizations, and has spoken at numerous libraries, schools, book stores, yoga studios, and school conferences. She has also taught Children’s Yoga Teacher Training Seminars in Los Angeles at both Children’s Bureau and Pathways (a child care resource center) to help children from all walks of life be exposed to the health benefits of yoga. She is a member of the Society of Book Writers and Illustrators, the Independent Book Publishers Association, and USA Yoga. Additionally, she writes articles about children’s health and fitness on Examiner.com.
The benefits of yoga for kids include the following:
- Develope discipline
- Increases focus and concentration
- Builds balance, strength and flexibility
- Helps with other sports
- Improves visual-motor and auditory processing
Both of these products would be great for your kids this holiday. I always love giving gifts that are fun.
