Last month I posted regarding a contest from Sock It to Me. They announced the winner earlier this week. See the three winners above. Which one do you like best? This was the 10th year that they had the contest. Here is a bit more about winners.
The first place winner is 19-year-old Emily Mackey from San Luis Obispo, CA, for her design “Fir Sure.” She will receive $5,000 and have his/her design manufactured in Sock It to Me’s collection next Fall. Second place goes to Emily Dumas from Beverly, MA, for her design “Space Kitty,” and the third place to Cathie Gabe from Winterville, GA, for her design “The Rampage”. The second and third place winners will receive $1,000 and $500, respectively.
This year’s Design-A-Sock Contest was one of the most successful in the history of the company. Sock It to Me received a total of 4,681 entries from artists located in more than 60 countries around the world including Iran, India, Italy, Poland, Malaysia, Egypt, Iraq, Iceland and more. The artists ranged in talent and age, with the oldest entrant at 82 years old and the youngest at 3 years old. Some of the fun design trends submitted included aliens, giraffes, snakes, ice cream, popcorn, pizza and watermelon, all of which will provide great inspiration for Sock It to Me’s future collections.
The contest was held from September 5 – 26, and sock fanatics from around to world were invited to express their passion by submitting a unique sock design for a chance to win cash and products – and have their design manufactured on a sock. The company promoted the campaign through a Facebook campaign with fun and quirky advertising. The Mayor of Portland even announced a proclamation declaring October as Official Sock Month in celebration of the contest and Sock It to Me’s 10th birthday. A panel of celebrity judges including popular music group MisterWives, comedian Brian Posehn and a famous cat named Lil Bub helped narrow down the submissions, while fans ultimately selected the winning design by casting their ballot on Facebook from October 3-10.
