Christmas is fast approaching, the evenings are filling up with parties and it’s reaching that point in the year where we all start buying gifts in a blind panic. Don’t let your gift buying descend into mayhem, keep yourself on track with my list of 4 great gift ideas for the man in your life.

1. Clothes

So this one sounds a bit boring but really, who else is going to get him something that doesn’t fall squarely in the category of ‘functional’ or ‘business’? Probably not one to get a new guy in your life, clothes can be a bit of a minefield. Have a flick through his wardrobe before you hit the shops, make sure you know what sizes he buys and the kind of colors he goes for. There’s merit to buying something he might not choose for himself but only if he will actually wear it. Get gift receipts and don’t be too offended if he opts to take things back. After all, it’s better that he gets something he will use rather than a jumper he hates and wears to shut you up. That’s not a good look for anyone.

Copper Snake Bracelet

2. Jewellery

Now I’m not talking bling; if he wants that signet ring or gold chain let his mum buy it. Choose something that is personal and practical. A watch is a great choice. It’s surprising how many people these days don’t wear one and use their phones instead. If he already has an everyday watch, get him something more formal he can wear out and on special occasions. If he’s not the watch type, choose something that’s smart but not too bulky. Check Shinola’s watch collection out if you aren’t sure what to get, you’ll find a great selection of both.

Gadget Infinity Mod

3. Gadget

Let’s face it girls, this is the go-to gift for the majority of men in our lives. From electric wine coolers to desktop arcade games that plug into the USB, this category is awash with choice. You have two options, something that is useful and might get regularly used or go for complete novelty. Watching everyone unwrapping and getting to grips with hilarious gadgets are a great way to keep the masses entertained at Christmas. If you’re the sort of person who doesn’t like to clutter up the house with useless junk this probably isn’t the right choice for you. Let’s be honest, these sorts of thing rarely see the light of day once the initial novelty has worn off. If, on the other hand, you love a good laugh and won’t be too offended when your gifts get chucked in a drawer and forgotten about, the world of novelty gifts is your oyster! You can take your pick of useless inventions, from electric potato peelers (he might take that as a hint) to self-stirring mugs, there is something out there for everyone.

RRL Sweater

4. Personal

If you have some time on your hands, why not make him his gift? Handmade scarves, hats and gloves are a great way to go and will undoubtedly get some use in the New Year. Alternatively, homemade gift vouchers (one free pass on the dishes) are a great option if you’re pressed for time. They can be as funny as you can make them and can have everyone around the Christmas tree roaring in delight.
