I like to try new products for my skin and I found one that is a bit different than others that I have tried. Nutra-Lift® Grapeseed Foaming Face Polish is a mask, exfoliant, cleanser & toner all in one product. It is all natural and all organic it uses Muscadine Grape Seed which is known for its natural anti-oxidants, phenols and flavonoids (ella-gic acid the known natural anti-cancer agent). My Review:

I really enjoyed Rocky Road it is the second book in the Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series that I have read. I think there are 10 so far so I need to read some of the earlier books. I love Sadie Hoffmiller she is in the mist of planning her wedding and starting her new life after being a widow for 20 years. Sadie goes to a fundraising event with a couple of her friends and is talked into investigating a case of a missing doctor. She tried so hard not to get involved but once she started she couldn’t help herself. You will need to read what happens next. Like Baked Alaska - the book before this one. I could not put it down. I also really like that recipes are added to the book. I love to bake and their are a number I would like to try like the Cafe’ Rio-Style Barbacoa Pork sounds yummy! I know you will love the book as much as I did.

I guess Rex and I did spend a lot of time in front of the TV this weekend. I think we watched 3 or 4 DVD and lots of football. We previewed Legend of Kung Fu Rabbit which was a great movie. Let me tell you a bit about it and then my thoughts at the end.

My Thoughts

Even though Legend of Kung Fu Rabbit was more for kids than Rex and I we both loved it. We really liked the cast and the music that was in the DVD. I also liked the Asian feel and how well it was depicted. The story was very cute about Fu starts on his journey to become a king fu master. Fu was the least likely to become a master - he was clumsy and was a bit on the big side. I think it is a good lesson that if you put your mind to it you can do anything! This is a movie the whole family can enjoy together.

My thoughts

Sunday night after watching football all weekend we decided it was time to watch something else. Rex wasn’t sure he wanted to watch Dear Mom, Love Cher but I talked him into it. I found it very interesting to learn about Cher Mom, Georgia Holt ~ I had really never heard much about her. The DVD also has some unique family footabge and stores exclusive to this DVD. Georgia Holt was a very beautiful woman and had a very interesting life. She did love her 2 daughters and made sure they had what they needed. I was surprised to see that her Mom had been married 7 times.

When Cher and her Mom sang together you could tell were Cher’s unique voice came from. I loved that they sang together and that Cher re-mastered her mothers long lost records. I loved the movie! The funny thing is even Rex who didn’t want to watch it - said yesterday I am really glad we watched Dear Mom, Love Cher.

The DVD release is today along with Cher’s new solo album.

Natasha’s Health Nut Cookies Review

I am always on the look out for something health and something that taste good. I recently tried some cookies from Natasha’s Health Nut Cookies. They are all natural, gluten free, low-glycemic and diabetic safe. The Health Nut Cookies are made with almond flour. They contain no Trans fat, artificial sweeteners and no refined grains. I think these would be great for my Mom who is diabetic but still loves sweet.

Natasha’s Health Nut Cookies come in 3 great flavors. My favorite is the Cranberry Orange it had lots of flavor. It had lots of cranberries and even some coconut. They reminded me of Thanksgiving - with all the great flavors.

There is also a Raisin Amaretto cookie - these were Rex’s favorite he loves raisins and there were lots of them in this almond flavored cookie.

The last one is the Vanilla Chocolate Chip - it has the prefect balance of Vanilla and Chocolate Chip. Two flavors that are meant to be together.

Rex has a niece who is 3 years old and I love to find fun things for her to do when she visits us. Rex always says she is Miley sweet and sour - some days she isn’t very fun to be around and it was one of these sour days I got out this great project from Colortime Crafts. It is a “Recycle” tote bag and 3 markers. Miley loves to color so this was prefect for her.

Look at how hard Miley is concentrating to stay in the lines. She had so much fun and it kept her busy for some time. She couldn’t wait to show her Mom her fun project when she was done. She was in a much better mood when she started coloring the tote than earlier in the day.

I am not diabetic but my Mom is so I am always looking for products that she might like. Nature’s Hollow has products that are sugar-free and they tasted great. They use a natural sweetener called Xylitol which is a 5-carbon sugar alcohol that is ideal for diabetics or anyone else looking to decrease their sugar intake.

Nature’s Hollow has a number of different products and I was able to try a few. The first are the great tasting jams. I tired the Raspberry Sugar-Free Jam Preserves and it was great - you could taste all the fresh fruit that Nature’s Hollow uses. I could not tell that it was a sugar free product. They also have Apricot, Mountain Berry, Peach, Strawberry and Wild Blueberry ~ what a great selection. Your family wouldn’t miss the sugar in these jam preserves.

I also received some Sugar-Free Ketchup and I have tasted other sugar-free ketchup at my Mom’s and they are not to good tasting. Nature’s Hollow was the best tasting low-carb ketchup that I have tasted. I would use it on a regular bases.

The next item I tried was the Sugar-Free Honey and I thought there is no way this will taste any good and what a surprise it tasted like honey! I have used it in some of my recipes and really could not tell that it was sugar free.

The last item was the Maple Sugar-Free Syrup. This too was very good. It was some of the best sugar-free syrup I have had. The syrup comes in Maple and Raspberry.

I was really happy to find Nature’s Hallow and all their good tasting products. I am getting some of the products for my Mom I am sure she will love them too. I have been looking for speakers for my new laptop that I got a few weeks ago and I found a great speakers from Tego Audio. I received the CERA Wireless Portable Speaker.

I really liked how the CERA Wirless speaker looked. I received a red one and with the round shape looks really sleek. It was so easy to set up - I just turned it and a voice notification told me it was on and then that it was pairing and then when it finished connecting it tells you. It is compatible with iPad®, iPod®, iPhone®, MP3, MP4, Laptop, PC and most Bluetooth® enabled devices.

The sound was great - and I was a bit sorry I told the boys I had the speaker - our laptop is on a desk in the living room. I am thinking of hiding it when I am not using it. I didn’t know a 19 was so hard of hearing and listens to everything very loudly.

You can stream audio from your Bluetooth® enabled device from 33 feet away. You can get 5-7 hours of playtime on a full charge and it can recharge using the USB charging cord which is included. I really am happy with my CERA speaker and so glad I found it. It has a 1 year warranty and comes with easy to read instructions.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL OATMEAL BARS

Yields 24 bars

3/4 cup butter, softened 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/3 cup sugar 1 egg

1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract 1 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking soda 2 cups quick-cooking oats 3/4 cups chocolate chips, or other flavored chips 1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)

Preheat oven to 350° F. Spray a 9 x 13 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray, or line with foil.

Cream softened butter with sugars. Add egg and vanilla extract and mix well. Stir together the flour and baking soda, then add to butter mixture. Stir in oats, chips and raisins. Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan, then cut into bars.

FREEZER PREPARATION:Mix batter as directed and spread in pan; do not bake. Cover tightly, label and freeze.

My Review:

I love cookbooks - and I am always looking for new things to make that are fast and easy. I found a number of great new recipes that I will make again. I really loved that it gave the Make-Ahead and Freezer Notes. I work full time days and Rex works grave yard - so I see him for an hour before he leaves for work - so I need meals that I can make in a hurry. So what I like to do is plan my meals on Saturday or Sunday and using The Dinner Creations Cookbook let me do that. A couple of our favorites from the book were Fettucine Alfredo with Shrimp and the Crispy Orange-Sesame Chicken. There are a few more that I can not wait to try. Beer Chips and Pub Pretzels Review

When I went back to Wisconsin this past summer I was introduced to some great chips. They are called Beer Chips®.Which are thick-cut kettle style potato chips coated with a major dose of the world’s most perfect beverage: BEER. They’re made even better with a generous glazing of sugar, honey and salt. Beer Chips do not contain alcohol. They will not impair your ability to drive, but they will make you the life of the party or at least my brother Andy thought he was since he brought the chips. Its hard to explain the flavor but they were good and a bag didn’t last long and they didn’t need dip.

The second product I tried was Pub Pretzels. I loved the flavor ~ they had a tangy garlic flavor. I loved that they were small pretzels and had lots of taste.

There are a couple other products in this line including Margarita kettle chips which are salt and lime flavored, Hot Potatoes which are are a Spicy Bloody Mary kettle chip and Barbecue Rib kettle chip. I can’t wait to try the others.
