Thank you for stopping at my spot on Conspiracy of Silence Blog Tour. This Virtual Book Tour is brought to you by Goddess Fish Promotions. I will provide you with a synopsis of the book, review, excerpt and a small bio from Glede Browne Kabongo. Visit the other blogs on this Book Tour to learn more about this book.

Synopsis:

She has the perfect life—and a secret worth killing for.
Nina Kasai is a gorgeous, Ivy League educated executive who would do anything to keep her past a secret, even from her husband. Seventeen years ago, she ran for her life and the truth has been locked away in the pages of her hidden diary, and in the mind of a disturbed woman who will never tell—ever.
When Nina lands the cover of a prestigious business magazine however, she can no longer hide from the powerful enemy she escaped. Phillip Copeland wants to be the next Governor of Massachusetts and he’s not above using his power and influence to silence Nina. He warns her to keep quiet about what happened all those years ago—or else.
As the stakes are raised, both politically and personally, Nina realizes the only way to win this game is to tell the truth. But who will believe her since her diary has been destroyed, and the only other witness isn’t talking?
Nina’s one chance at reclaiming her life hinges on a dramatic courtroom battle where nothing is as it seems. And when the verdict is read, four lives will be forever altered.

Excerpt:

Marc paced back and forth on the living room floor, his face laced with anger. It didn’t take long for Nina to discover the source of his wrath. He held up a photograph of Nina and Sonny Alvarez.
“Are you having an affair?” he asked, his jaw twitching.
Nina took two steps backwards, as if the damning photograph would cause her physical harm if she got close. She knew who had sent it and she berated herself for underestimating how low he could sink. By her way of thinking, Phillip figured if her marriage fell apart, she would come running to him and he could get her to do whatever he wanted. It’s the way he manipulated people: get them in a vulnerable state and then swoop in for the kill or make some grand sweeping gesture that would get you all happy, and before you realized what was happening, it was too late.
“That’s a strange question, Marc. When have I ever given you reason to think I was being unfaithful?”
“Never. Until now.”
“Babe, you’re getting worked up over nothing,” Nina said calmly. “Sonny and I are old friends from Stanford. I met him for lunch to discuss business.”
“On a Saturday? You said you were spending the weekend with Charlene. Look at the date on the bottom.” He shoved the photo into her hands.
“It was a quick, unplanned trip. Sonny works for a research company and Jack came to me with the idea of hiring his firm. I told Jack I would take care of it because of my connection to Sonny. I wanted to get it out of the way—one less thing on my plate during the work week.”
“Why haven’t I heard about this Sonny until now? And if there’s nothing going on, why lie to me about going to Charlene’s?”
“I already explained that, Marc. I told Jack I would take care of it because I knew Sonny personally.”
“So your boss called you on a Saturday, mentioned this research firm and you just decided to hop on a plane to Baltimore, just like that?”
Nina wiped her sweaty palms on her skirt and took deep calming breaths.
“Marc, I swear I’m not having an affair with Sonny or anyone else.”
“Then can you please explain this? It came with the photographs.” He pulled out a white sheet of paper from his back pocket and handed it to her.
Your wife is a liar. You deserve the truth.

Review:

I enjoyed this book it and found that I read it pretty fast. I liked all the secrets the story had and twist and turns right up till the end. I thought it was well written and the characters were well described.

Nina has her life together, she is successful and has a good marriage. Then Phillip shows up and things start to change for Nina. You can tell that Phillip and Nina have some kind of past but really not sure what. Nina has kept many secrets and they do tend to catch up with her.

What are Nina’s secret? Who is Phillip? You will need to read this fast paced thriller to find out. I am sure like me - you will have a hard time putting the book down once you start reading it.

Make sure to stop at these other stops in the Book Tour.

KRAVE Jerky

I never really liked beef jerky very much but had heard about KRAVE Jerky and heard it was different than the common every day jerky I wanted to try it. Here is a little about KRAVE Jerky and about the owner.
  • What is KRAVE?
KRAVE is jerky elevated – no longer must consumers settle for tough, chemically-processed products, but instead can turn to a flavorful, artisanal snack crafted with care and made using only high-quality ingredients. A cut above the old, leathery, chemically processed products, KRAVE represents a jerky renaissance, providing an all-natural snack that is both healthy and flavorful. Consumers can now enjoy a jerky for all seasons with KRAVE’s wide selection of innovative flavors including basil citrus and lemon garlic (turkey); chili lime, curry, garlic chili pepper and pineapple orange (beef); and smoky grilled teriyaki (pork). Unlike virtually all other food and beverage categories, the meat snack/jerky division has long been short on excitement and creativity, crying out for innovation and contemporary alternatives to the large meat processors’ status quo. KRAVE saw the opportunity to disrupt this sleepy food category with an elevated product that is all beef and no bull and has premium flavor profiles and healthier attributes. Devoid of any nitrates, MSG or artificial flavors, all-natural KRAVE jerky has an elevated conscience.
  • Who is KRAVE?
Born with a wooden spoon in his mouth to a lauded Sonoma County wine family, KRAVE founder and CEO Jonathan Sebastiani has grown up working in and surrounded by the culinary and wine industry. From these years of experience, he has developed a keen sense of flavor and a respect for the process needed to develop a food product with integrity. Sebastiani has the tools and skill set to create and educate consumers about a new breed of jerky. Seeking natural renewable energy in the form of a healthy, high-protein snack while training for the New York Marathon, Sebastiani came to appreciate the merits of jerky and, in turn, the need for a more innovative jerky product. KRAVE delights in the playful irony of a low-brow snack meat developed amidst the privileged wine country lifestyle. The same man who once worked to knock wine off its pedestal with “Wine Brats”, a marketing and business initiative to make wine more approachable to young adults, Jon Sebastiani now seeks to bring class to jerky by placing it on that very pedestal and asking that skeptical foodies give in to the krave.
I received 5 packages of KRAVE Jerky. I received the Basil Citrus, Chili Lime, Garlic Chili Pepper, Smoked Grilled Teriyaki, and Sweet Chipotle. I really love how much flavor each one had and how different the flavors are from each other. I think my favorite was the Chili Lime. It had a nice spicy with a hint of lime. What I liked best about KRAVE Jerky is how soft it was. it is also surprisingly healthy, 97% fat free, and hunger-satisfying. It is pretty low calorie too ranging from 50-100 calories per serving. The jerky is made either from turkey, beef or pork.
I would recommend trying KRAVE Jerky. It is not your average jerky that is for sure.
KRAVE Jerky has kindly offered on of my Kaisy Daisy’s Readers a 5 pack sample box like I received.
You must be 13+ US only. Contest runs Nov 19-29.
You must follow Kaisy Daisy’s Corner in at least one way. Extra entry for each way you follow.

Title: Cupid’s Christmas
Author: Bette Lee Crosby
In a fun Christmas Romance, Cupid is charged with making certain an older couple gets the love they’ve been waiting for and a young woman who’s far too attracted to handsome men with sexy eyes finds her perfect match. And, he has to make it happen by Christmas.
In a spot somewhere between Heaven and Earth, Cupid tries to maneuver around the complications that threaten to wreck this romance as he struggles to overcome the forces of lust, jealousy and the events brought on by his nemeses—Life Management. He matched John and Eleanor some thirty years ago, but Life Management stepped in and fouled things up. Now they’re both single and back together again. But before Cupid can give them the happiness they deserve, he’s got to come up with some magic, a few miracles and a dog for John’s daughter.
If you’re a Debbie Macomber fan, you’re gonna love Cupid’s Christmas!
A wonderful feel-good story that I for one am better for having read it. I definitely recommend this book very highly…Goodreads review
Excerpt:
The problem with humans is they’re in love with love. Even worse, they’re determined to find it themselves. They stumble in and out of relationships that simply were never meant to be and then wonder why it didn’t work. Females are infinitely more complicated than males. Lindsay Gray for example, she’s dead-set on doing this her way and four times she’s ended up with the wrong male. She’s the kind of female who makes my job a nightmare.
Contrary to popular belief, love isn’t a result of me shooting an arrow into some human’s heart—that whole bit is a lot of hooey. I get my orders from Upstairs. The Boss gives me a rundown of matches then it’s my job to make sure the male and female get together. When things go wrong I’ve got to come up with a Plan B. Unfortunately Lindsay Gray has already used up B through E, I’m now working on Plan F and she’s dangerously close to being reclassified as Love-Challenged.
Her problem is she can’t tell love from lust. She sees a pair of heavy-lidded dark eyes, or a rippling muscle and thinks she’s in love. This started when she was only ten years old and caught sight of the boy who lived two doors down. The lad was twelve and wanted nothing to do with her, but that didn’t stop Lindsay from developing a preadolescent case of lovesickness. She followed that poor boy around like a faithful puppy until she saw him kissing Sara McLachlan. Once that happened she swore she’d never love again and she didn’t, until she was eleven.
Lindsay’s mistaken love more times than I can count, and every time it ended in a disaster. She can’t understand why this keeps happening to her, but the answer is obvious—humans with do-it-yourself determination are not equipped to identify true love. They inevitably mistake passion for love. Elizabeth Taylor is a perfect example. She refused to let me handle things, so eight times she got married and seven times she got divorced. One poor chap was killed in a plane crash before she had a chance to divorce him—that was not my doing, that unfortunate event came from Life Management. Not one of those gents was included in Elizabeth’s plan which goes to prove what I’ve been saying.
But I’m digressing, so let me get back to the subject at hand.
One of the advantages of this job is my ability to see the future and I can tell you Lindsay’s got a lot of problems ahead of her. Problems far worse than her bad boyfriend choices. Most of those problems are coming from the guy over in Life Management. Me, I’m a lovable fellow. But Life Management—well suffice it to say he handles things like car crashes, bankruptcies and heart attacks.
.
Right now my primary assignment isn’t Lindsay—it’s her father and Eleanor Barrow. But if I don’t step in and take control of Lindsay’s life, she’ll ruin theirs. Eleanor and John deserve better, they’ve been waiting a long time.

Author Bio
Award-winning novelist Bette Lee Crosby brings the wit and wisdom of her Southern Mama to works of fiction—the result is a delightful blend of humor, mystery and romance along with a cast of quirky charters who will steal your heart away.
Born in Detroit and raised in a plethora of states scattered across the South and Northeast, Crosby originally studied art and began her career as a packaging designer. When asked to write a few lines of copy for the back of a pantyhose package, she discovered a love for words that was irrepressible. After years of writing for business, she turned to works of fiction and never looked back. “Storytelling is in my blood,” Crosby laughingly admits, “My mom was not a writer, but she was a captivating storyteller, so I find myself using bits and pieces of her voice in most everything I write.”
Crosby’s work was first recognized in 2006 when she received The National League of American Pen Women Award for a then unpublished manuscript. Since that, she has gone on to win several more awards, including another NLAPW award, three Royal Palm Literary Awards, the FPA President’s Book Award Gold Medal and most recently the 2011 Reviewer’s Choice Award and Reader’s View Southeast Fiction Literary Award.
Her published works to date are: Cracks in the Sidewalk (2009), Spare Change (2011), The Twelfth Child (2012), and Life in the Land of IS (2012). Life in the Land of IS is a memoir written for Lani Deauville, a woman the Guinness Book of Records lists as the world’s longest living quadriplegic.
Crosby newest novel Cupid’s Christmas is scheduled for release in early October and following that, What Matters Most will be released in early 2013.

Thank you for stopping at my spot on Unexpected Christmas Hero. This Virtual Book Tour is brought to you by Pump Up Your Book Virtual Book Tour. I will provide you with a synopsis of the book, review, and a small bio from Kathi Macias. Visit the other blogs on this Book Tour to learn more about this book.

Synopsis:

Never expecting to be homeless, Josie Meyers and her children are shocked when circumstances force them to live on the streets. Rick, a down-and-out disabled vet, befriends them, reawakening memories of a faith Josie had in childhood. But can she reconcile her once-held beliefs with her current situation? Will she and her children even survive long enough to try to rekindle Josie’s faith?

Bio:

Kathi Macias

My 2012 Christmas novel, Unexpected Christmas Hero, released from New Hope Publishers in mid-October. It is a story about a family (mother and two small children) who become homeless when their husband/father dies unexpectedly and leaves them in terrible financial straits. The family is befriended by a homeless Vietnam vet who becomes their “unexpected Christmas hero,” despite his own precarious position. I just learned from my publisher that the man on the cover (Willard Parker) truly is homeless but graciously agreed to pose for this photo. He told the photographer that he is separated from his family and would like very much to be reunited with them (particularly his grown daughter). So I thought about all you wonderful blog followers and social networking friends and decided, Why not band together and try to make this happen for Mr. Parker? I am posting the story from the photographer below so you can see how Mr. Parker ended up on the cover. If you recognize/know Mr. Parker and/or have any information about his family, please leave a comment here with your contact information or email me at ezyrtr@ca.rr.com. Meanwhile, please pass this information along to anyone you can–via your own blogs, social networks, email loops, whatever way possible to help get the word out. Let’s make this go viral and bring this family back together!
Story from photographer/designer:
We (designer and photographer Michel Lê and spouse Christine) were Christmas vacationing in Asheville, NC.
I had Kathi’s book cover to design and needed photos of homeless people. Christine remembered seeing homeless people under some bridge in town. I grabbed my camera and off we went.
After unsuccessfully circling around for an hour, I decided to call it off and head back.
That’s when God told Christine to persevere, and to go in a different part of town. And there he was, Willard Parker, the perfect physical representation (in my opinion) of Kathi’s Unexpected Christmas Hero‘s main character. We stopped the car and asked him if he was homeless and willing to pose for a few photos, after explaining to him the book story.
Willard said yes and was very accommodating. While driving to a suitable place for the photos, Willard offered us a glimpse of his life. He lost his house a few years back. He has a daughter somewhere north (maybe Detroit?) whom he lost touch. Willard also believes in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We had a sense of great sadness in his life, that it didn’t turned out the way he hoped for. Willard had a very humble and kind spirit. But we sensed a quiet yet powerful sparkle and desire for life. He longed to see his daughter, and we felt how hard that would be for him in his present situation. He is basically illiterate as I found out (when I asked him to read and sign the Model Release).
I wanted to buy him lunch in a restaurant but he politely declined (maybe for fear of not being “part of the crowd”). We gave him some money and left, with a heavy heart and deeply moved.
While designing the cover, I prayed that the one with him would be chosen (there were others being considered), so I could send him a few copies, that in turn he could send one to his daughter (assuming we locate her). I prayed that God would make this happen, that He would flood his daughter with new love for her dad after seeing him on a book cover, that she would be proud of him, that she would have a great desire to reunite with him, just like we long to reunite in love with our Father. I hoped and prayed for it to happen. It would be the greatest Christmas gift of all for Willard.
Then the cover with Willard was chosen and the author decided to launch a campaign to find Willard’s family and reunite them. Thank You, God! We hope/pray that many of you will join us to spread the word. Sooner or later, someone out there will recognize Williard’s picture and/or name and know how to contact his family. Thank you all for being part of this! Now let’s get to work and see what God can do!!!

Review:

This is one of the best and most heart warming book I read. When you read it make sure you have a box of Kleenex close by; I cried from the beginning to the end.

Josie’s and her two children Jacob 8 years old and Susanna 5 years old were homeless. Josie’s husband had died a year ago and was very honest with Josie. She didn’t know he had lost his job, spent the retirement fund, and took a second mortgage on the house. Soon after her husband died Josie and her children were out on the street.

Josie was so tough and took care of her children and they lived staying in shelters and eating food that was provided through the shelters. It was Thanksgiving and they met Rick a Vietnam Vet who was living on the street - he ate dinner at the shelter with them and became there friend and looked out for them. There were also people from the local church who tried to help as much as they could. They lived for a short time with the Lund family and then with Karen - but Josie knew that she could not take advantage of these good people.

When things looked the blackest something wonderful happens. You will need to read Unexpected Christmas Hero and see who was the hero. It is a very wonderful story and I want to share it with everyone.

I love Christmas stories and this one did not disappoint. This story was well written and easy to follow.

Alice owns a candle shop in New York that is not doing so well. She is going to be married on Christmas to her wealthy boyfriend Philip. Philip wanted Alice to close her store but she wasn’t sure she wanted to.
It was a few days before the holidays and Alice was driving to their house in the country. A snow story was coming and so she was hoping to make it to the house with no problem. Along the way she runs into an accident and was directed to take a side road. Here she meets someone who directs her to a cute bed and breakfast to stay for the night. He also told her to search the book shelf. Which she did an found a diary. After reading the diary she wants to find out more about the man who wrote it.

What does she find out? Who is the man who directed her to the bed and breakfast? Does she sell her candle shop? You will need to read The Christmas Diary and find out. I am sure you will enjoy the book just like I did!

Thank you for stopping at my spot on Lucia Grandi Book Tour.. This Virtual Book Tour is brought to you by Lighting Book Promotions. I will provide you with a synopsis of the book, review, and a small bio from Susan Speranza. Visit the other blogs on this Book Tour to learn more about this book.
The Tale of Lucia Grande, the Early Years
When an old woman is asked to tell the story of her life, she tells is an intense and poignant tale about growing up in and surviving an irrational, warring suburban family during the 1950s and 60s. The narrative is told from Lucia’s perspective as the second child where she and her siblings are caught in the middle of a lifelong war between her mother, Ruth, an overbearing, unhappy homemaker, and her father, Leonard, a manipulative, sometimes violent New York City cop. Lucia is the silent, thoughtful eyewitness to her parents’ constant and sometimes life-threatening battle.
The story is told as a memoir; each chapter describes a particular incident in Lucia’s life which shows the constant struggle between her parents and the perverse effect it has on her and her siblings. From her complicated and unwanted birth, to her witnessing a suicide at age 3, to her stint as a runaway at age 14, the story progresses to the final crisis where as a young woman, she is turned out of her house and banished from her family forever.
This timeless story of one woman’s courageous attempt to come to terms with her past and the troubled family that dominated it is powerfully and poignantly told.
This novel recently made it to the Quarter final rounds in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Contest. Amazon reviewers called it great storytelling and the wrote that the prose “ flows with such beauty you are holding your breath to eagerly read each word!”

Biography

Once upon a Time…I was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island where I had an interesting and creative childhood. Once in college, I studied Psychology and Philosophy, but since “thinking” didn’t translate into earning money or job security, I worked at a variety of different and unrelated jobs both in New York City and on Long Island.

In order to keep me sane through all the craziness of life, I spent my spare time writing. Anything and everything. The culmination of this was a fantasy - The City of Light - which has recently been reissued as an ebook.

I took up the hobby of dog showing and breeding and produced many Pekingese Champions. You can see them over at our Castlerigg Pekingese website (www.castleriggpekes.webs.com).

Somewhere in the middle of my life so far, after a great personal upheaval, I went back to school, became a High School Librarian. I managed to fulfill my childhood dream of living in the country when I finally escaped suburbia and moved to Vermont where I now happily live with my beautiful Pekes.

But I’ve never stopped writing.

My biography (as with my life, I hope) is to be continued…

THE TALE OF LUCIA GRANDI, THE EARLY YEARS is my first novel. I recently entered the 2012 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, where this novel made it unexpectedly to the Quarter finals. It was also on the short list of finalists in the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Competition. The book was entered in both contests under its former name, MY LIFE IN DOGS, THE EARLY YEARS.

Review:

I really liked Lucia Grandi. When I first saw the book I thought wow it is going to take me awhile to read, but it actually goes pretty fast. What I really liked is that each chapter is like a little short story.
The story starts out with Lucia earliest memory. She was just three years old and on the way to her grandparents house with her parents for dinner. Her family saw a man commit suicide right in front of them. The story was so well described that you felt you were there. I thought that throughout the book. It was so well written.
Lucia mother decide when she was in 4th grade that her and her sister needed to go to the new school the church was opening. Lucia poor sister was so upset about changing schools, were Lucia was happy to start over again. That is just an example of how strong and how much Lucia struggled to move on in.
I think anyone would love this story and I think once you pick it up you will not be able to put it down.
Make sure you stop on the Blog tour at some of these other blogs and see what they thought of Lucia Grandi.
