Happy National Pizza Month!! Rex and I often have pizza on no cook Friday. When you think of pizza what is one of your favorite places to go? One place I think of is California Pizza Kitchen. They have a good variety of hand tossed pizza’s including one of my favorites the Original BBQ Chicken Pizza. In addition to the amazing classic pizzas, salads and pastas on their menu, CPK has introduced their New Chapter featuring a fresh modern look to their restaurants, along with their new, upscale items on their menu. I was invited to visit and check out what was new. This location is in Happy Valley, Oregon.
The above picture is of the open kitchen were you can see the chefs make your meals. You see the chairs in the front? Kids can sit there and watch the chefs toss the pizza dough and if they want they can toss their own dough!
I went with my friend Joanna on Sunday and we had such a great time trying a number of great items. We had an amazing time – from when we walked in the door and were greeted by Suzanne the general manager until we left. Lindsay our waitress was very helpful and helped us decide what to start with – we ordered a Sangria flight – it had three 3oz pours of the Orchard, Red-Berry and one other Sangria that I don’t recall the name of. I have tried flights of wine or beer never Sangria. I loved them all! I would go in CPK just for the Sangria it was that good. My favorite of the three was the Red-Berry Sangria – it had a couple of fresh blueberries in it. The Sangria changes with the season.
Next came the fresh bread with some olive oil dipping sauce. Look at all the great seasoning in the oil!
Here is the Shaved Mushroom and Spinach Flatbread. It has cremini mushrooms, sauteed spinach, olive oil, Romano and Parmesan cheese on it. The crust was nice and crispy.
Next we had the Avocado Club Egg Rolls – don’t they look great? They came with two great sauces – house made herb ranch and then a bit spicier ranchito sauce.
Here was my meal – Hearth Roasted Halibut – it was roasted on a cedar plank and served on a bed of butternut squash farro, baby kale and grilled asparagus. I have never had farro and I think the butternut squash farro was my favorite part of the meal although everything was cooked good and tasted great!
This was Joanna’s meal – Fire-Grilled Ribeye – doesn’t it look great? It came with a creamy bleu cheese butter, roasted potatoes and a salad dressed in a lemon garlic dressing. Look how big both portions were – we both took some home with us!
We were also talked into having a piece of pumpkin cheesecake that we split – it was so good!
During our visit Suzanne checked on us and told us a lot about CPK – they sound like a good company to work for. They have helped a lot of people by granting wishes through Make-A-Wish program and have other charitable causes that they work with. Suzanne told us that some of their customers have been coming in for years. I can see why; the food is good but the people are what make it a really special place. I can’t wait to go back!
