Formaldehyde free nail products are extremely important for one’s health. Safety organizations have been observing cosmetic consumer products for some time as they have looked for potentially toxic ingredients. It was shocking for their studies to discover that traditional nail polish normally contains at least three toxins, those being formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and toluene, all of which have been linked to major health problems.

Formaldehyde: Used as a preservative, it is found in nail treatments and hardeners. It has been linked to cancer, nervous system disorders, skin problems, and can cause damage to the kidneys and liver. It is also found in products like air fresheners and even in secondhand smoke.

Dibutyl phthalate: DBP helps to prevent nail lacquer from chipping and becoming brittle. Unfortunately, it can cause birth defects, reproductive problems, and disrupt a person’s hormones. DBP is also found in skin creams and perfumes.

Toulene: This solvent helps give the smoothness to nail polish, but it can damage the eyes, lungs, throat, and can cause nausea, headaches, dizziness, or even short term memory loss.

How can you limit exposure to these dangerous toxins if you don‘t want to give up nail polish and other nail products? The answer is by replacing traditional nail polish with safer products that are formulated without eight of the most dangerous ingredients usually found in typical lacquers. The additional five are TPHP, Butyl Acetate, Camphor, Ethyl Acetate, and Benzophenone.

Polston and Co. is a good example of a company that prides itself on eliminating the eight toxin ingredients in their nail products. This family owned and operated business has been developing products for the cosmetics industry for more than 20 years. They have been committed to moving away from solvent systems into aqueous systems, which is a new chemistry that uses the universal solvent, water. Polston and Co. continues to innovate and deliver products that have maximum performance but without any compromises on safety and health. What is used is a cutting edge technology which leaves out all those bad chemicals mentioned above.
