home_header_0I am always on the look out for something easy and tasty to make for dinner.  Recently I received some Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets from Gorton’s.  They are made from 100% wild-caught Alaska Pollock and are breaded in a panko breadcrumb.  They are about 200 calories a serving and taste great!  I love that they are so crispy but that you bake them instead of them being deep fried.  IMG_1118(1)I like to keep a bag of them in the freezer for a quick dinner if I am running behind.

We like to eat the Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets from Gorton’s a number of different ways.  I like to make them them and use lemon on them and eat them with a salad.  Last week one night I made them and put them  in a corn tortilla shell and added all kinds of veggies – including cabbage, lettuce, carrots and even a bit of cilantro. Rex added ranch dressing to his but I like mine with just lemon.  It was a fill but low calorie meal.  You can find other idea’s on Gorton’s HERE.

If you would like to try Gorton’s Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets they have a coupon on smartandcrunchy.com that you can download right now.

Here is a product I was very excited to get ~ the Ultimate Crochet Kit – Crochet Hook Set with Case from the TenderHeart Shop.  It has everything you need to crochet and would be great for a beginner or someone who has crochet for years.  The case holds 12 crochet hooks in their own slot.  What’s really nice is there is top flap that holds the hooks in place so they don’t fall out.  This kit includes 35 items ~ here is the list:

  • 12 color coded hooks from 2.00 mm to 8.00 mm
  • 2 aluminum stitch holders 3.5 in and 4.5 in
  • 10 stitch markers
  • 6 crochet yarn needles 3 in 9 cm and 3 in 7 cm
  • 1 row counter
  • 1 soft flexible measuring tape
  • 1 knitting needle gauge and ruler
  • 1 pair of folding scissors
  • 1 custom designed premium design case

Isn’t that a great list?  What more do you need.  The case also has a magnetic closure to hold the case securely shut. I like that everything I need is in one place, doesn’t look messy and is easy to store.  IMG_1078(1)

Here are a couple of my recent projects ~ I have been making lots of infinity scarfs they are easy and don’t seem to take much yarn.  I think they look really pretty and almost lacey like.  I think everyone I know will be getting one for Christmas – I think I have 10-12 made and it is only April.

If you would like to purchase this   Ultimate Crochet Kit – Crochet Hook Set with Case from the TenderHeart Shop for yourself or someone else you can purchase it on the link below from Amazon.com.

Friday night is pizza night for us.  I cook meals almost every night so I want one easy meal a week.  I normally will get a Papa Murphy’s pizza on the way home so it is baked at home and is nice and hot.  I had been for awhile looking for a new pizza cutter.  I was excited to try this one I received from Sh&Sh.

It has a 100% stainless steel blade and works for cutting pizza, pie, crust and pastry dough.  I found that it is easy to clean and because it is made from stainless steel it will not rust.  The handle is made out of hard rubber and fits in my hand perfectly. It has soft grips on it so that it does not slip and gives me perfect balance and control. The Sh&Sh pizza cutter is light weight and comfortable to use. I have a feeling this pizza cutter will last me for years to come.

If you are looking for a great pizza cutter you can buy one for yourself on the link below from Amazon.com.

Home and Family 3151 Final Photo Assets

Recently I have seen a number of recipes for BBQ using blueberries.  This week Bryan King stopped by Home & Family to share his Brown Sugar Baby Back Ribs with host Cristina Ferrare.  They look and sound really good so I thought I would would share it with you.  You can watch Home & Familyweekdays at 10 am ET/PT on the Hallmark Channel.

Home and Family 3151 Final Photo Assets

Brown Sugar Baby Back Ribs

Ingredients for the Blueberry Chipotle Sauce:
  • 1 pound fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 3/4 cup honey 3 cups 12 Bones Tomato “Q” Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
Directions for preparing the Ribs:
  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Tear off a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil that is approximately 6 inches longer and 6 inches wider than your rack of ribs (basically large enough so you can fully envelop the ribs in a foil tent).
  3. Be sure to lay shiny side up otherwise heat will be directed outward away from ribs.
  4. Add pan spray to foil. Sprinkle smoked sea salt in a line down the middle of the foil.
  5. Pat dry top of rib so brown sugar rub will not run off and lay meat side up over top of the sea salt.
  6. Add approximately 1 cup (1 handful) of brown sugar rib rub to top of rib and pat down.
  7. Tent foil completely enclosing rib and lay on top of sheet pan.
  8. Cook for 2 hours and 15 minutes. Check to see if it’s done by wiggling a bone. If it is still tight, then tent foil back and cook for another 15 minutes.
  9. Once done, sprinkle approx 2 tablespoons of brown sugar rub on top of rib and cook on broil with foil open for approx 5 more minutes.
  10. Watch carefully so as to not scorch.
Directions for the Blueberry Chipotle Sauce:
  1. In a food processor or a blender, puree the berries and the chipotles
  2. Then transfer the berry mixture to a saucepan, and add the remaining ingredients.
  3. Simmer this mixture over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the sauce from the heat and cool.
  5. The finished and cooled sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month.

I think these sound really good ~ don’t you?  I may make these this weekend.

BookCover_FallSemesterFall Semester

by Stephanie Fournet

BLURB:

A depressed English professor finds love in the most unlikely place in Stephanie Fournet’s emotional debut novel, Fall Semester.

Despite his stunning good looks, Dr. Malcolm Vashal is perhaps the most detested professor on campus. A floundering career and the aftershocks of a painful divorce have left the thirty-four-year-old with more than a little self-loathing, which only grows when he meets Maren Gardner. The graduate student with the loyal heart and searching eyes is much too good for him. She is off-limits for more reasons than one, but Malcolm can’t seem to resist her.

Maren is facing the greatest loss of her life, and her family needs her now more than ever. Between caring for them and building her future, Maren doesn’t have time for a social life, much less a relationship, but she can’t push a certain green-eyed professor from her mind. She sees in him a goodness that others don’t, but that might not be enough.

As the two discover each other, their blossoming friendship soon turns into something more, but self-doubts, family tragedy, and personal demons stand in their way.

Can they overcome these odds and share a love that each desperately needs? Or will the end of the semester find them heartbroken?

Excerpt:

Dr. Vashal had seated himself at the dinette, but he stood when she entered, and he immediately frowned.

“Your hair is still wet,” he reproached. “That won’t do.”

“It’s alright,” she brushed off his concern. “Shall we sit in the living room?”

“It is not alright,” he upbraided, his frown deepening. “You have a fever and a cough, and it’s drafty in here. You’ll catch pneumonia like that.”

At his scolding tone, the last of her energy drained out of her, and Maren sunk into a kitchen chair, laying her forehead in her hands and her elbows on the table.

Why is he so angry?

“Dr. Vashal,…I just don’t have it in me to dry my hair right now. Please. I need to sit down.”

Maren was sure that she, in fact, needed to lie down. She couldn’t even bring herself to look up at him, so it was the appearance of his black Steve Madden Oxfords entering her field of vision that told her he approached. She felt a hand on her shoulder.

“Let me help you,” he said softly, all scolding gone. “Come.”

He took her arm and gently guided her until she was on her feet again, and he plucked up her chair in his other hand and led them into the bathroom. Even though this was the strangest thing to ever happen in her life, Maren was too bemused to resist. She allowed him to seat her in front of the sink, and, without a word, he took down her hair dryer from the caddy above the toilet and turned it on. Maren noticed that he tested its heat and force against his own hand before aiming it at her.

Warm air caressed her, and when he grabbed the hairbrush from the same caddy and began carefully pulling it through her hair, Maren thought her bones had gone liquid. She resumed her slumped posture, elbows on the sink and head in hands, and she closed her eyes.

Oh my God.

He was deliberate and gentle, catching her hair in the brush at the roots and following it down to the ends. The fine hairs on her neck stood on end, and goose bumps erupted down her arms. Maren’s scalp tingled every time the bristles of the brush stroked against it. She drowned in a sea of sensation.

A moan escaped her throat before she could catch herself.

She couldn’t help it— she could only hope that he had not heard her over the hair dryer. Maren could not remember feeling so carefully and intimately attended. It was heavenly.

My Review:

Fall Semester was a good book. Malcolm was a college professor not looking forward to the upcoming semester.  He was a very unhappy man and most did not like him, but he didn’t care.  He didn’t like to socialize but was expected to go to the beginning of the term mixer. He thought he would just get a drink and then sit in the corner everyone would leave him alone.  While sitting in the corner a new student who transferred from Colorado came over and introduced herself – it was Maren.  Malcolm wonders why she is talking to him.  He really didn’t want to talk.  You need to read Fall Semester to see if anything comes of Maren and Malcolm.  I liked the characters and was sad when the book was over.  I can’t wait to seewhat Stephanie Fournet writes next!

I have used a number of products from Ageless Derma and have always been happy with them.  When I saw that Ageless Derma had a Natural Rosacea Relief Cream I wanted to try it.  Actually I gave it to one of the girls I work with.  She has Rosacea and is always looking for something that helps. Rosacea is reddened skin  that is inflamed and irritated.  She couldn’t wait to try it.

The developers of Rosacea Soothing Cream have put together a powerful formulation containing skin-soothing aloe vera, inflammation-busting Vitamin E and natural peptides rich in antioxidants. The reddened skin will be greatly lessened with the twice-daily use of Rosacea Soothing Cream.  Irritated skin will be calmed and less inflamed, while the release of harmful proteases will be reduced.  This calming cream will aid in preventing damage to the skin’s very structure, as it soothes skin and makes for younger, revitalized complexion.

I noticed shortly after she started using it her cheeks were not as red.  She said her skin was feeling better and that her skin was becoming clearer.  She said she was so happy that she wasn’t having to wear as much make-up to cover up the redness.  Her skin was feeling smoother and healthier.  She liked how rich the lotion was and how it soaked into her skin.  She used it both in the morning and at night.

This Ageless Derma  Natural Rosacea Relief Cream can be used by anyone with Rosacea, sensitive or dry skin.  You can find a lot of other products for you skin HERE at Ageless Derma.  You can also purchase it on the link below on Amazon.com.

Rex and I are trying to eat more healthy and one of the things we have been doing is eating dried fruit for a snack instead of candy, cookies or bars.  I found Sonteridge Orchards about a year ago and they have lots of dried fruits.

SOoverviewI have tried a number of them but my favorite is always dried cherries and they have a couple different options.  The number one seller of the dried fruits is the Montmorency Cherries which I love and their number 5 top sell is the Chili Lime Cherries which might sound a bit odd but they taste great!

What I like is that you can eat the dried fruit right out of the bag for a sweet treat or you can add it to something like cereal or oatmeal in the morning, cookies or bars,  or even to an evening meal.

Stoneridge Orchards would love to send one of my readers their top 5 sellers which include

  • Montmorency Cherries
  • Blueberries
  • Berrymix
  • Peaches
  • Chili Lime Cherries

The Marrying TypeLaura Chapman will be on tour April 6-May 4 with her novel The Marrying Type

Always the wedding planner, never a bride, Elliot Lynch is famous for orchestrating the splashiest weddings in Charleston, South Carolina. When her father’s sloppy management practices leave them on the brink of bankruptcy, Elliot will do whatever it takes to save the family business. When asked to appear on “The Marrying Type,” a reality TV show about the people behind the scenes as couples exchange I dos, she says yes to the invasion of privacy (and the hefty paycheck that comes with it).

With a camera crew capturing every detail of her life, Elliot faces her most challenging contract yet: planning a wedding where her ex is involved in every part of the process. Add in a lazy assistant, liquor-loving bridesmaid, and rival planner encroaching on her turf, and Elliot’s wedding season goes from high-end to high-stress.

Forced to confront her past, Elliot must live out her troubled present on national TV if she has any hope of saving her future.

Excerpt:

Finding the bride curled up next to a toilet changed Elliot’s priorities. A rogue florist and brawling mothers paled next to a sobbing bride. Even having Libby bail last-minute meant nothing compared to this disaster.

Elliot kept her tone soft and light when she approached the bride. “Honey, let’s get you off the floor.”

The bride answered with a muffled sob. She didn’t budge. Elliot said a little prayer for strength, hoping her proximity to a chapel outweighed her distance from a toilet in God’s eyes. Elliot ignored the urge to gag—and her fear of ruining a pair of black slacks—to gingerly kneel beside the young woman.

She barely had time to prepare for the impact as the bride flung herself into Elliot’s arms. They sat in silence for several minutes, rocking back and forth. Elliot held the hysterical woman while she searched for any clues of what might have set off the bride. Unfortunately, her vantage point didn’t offer much.

The bride’s sobs turned into hiccups. Accepting a tissue, she blew her nose and murmured, “I’m late.”

“We have plenty of time.” Using one of the wipes from her wedding emergency kit, Elliot blotted the woman’s tear-streaked face to survey the damage. “We’ll call in the makeup artist and hairstylist to touch you up. You’ll be gorgeous and camera ready with plenty of time to spare.”

“No,” the bride said firmly. “I’m late.”

Elliot nearly repeated her words of comfort when she spotted an open pregnancy test on the counter. Paired with the bride’s sudden and mysterious stomach bug, and the constant stream of tears, she made the connection.

Oh, God. “You’re pregnant.”

The bride sniffed. “Maybe. Probably. I haven’t checked the test yet.” Her hiccups picked up. “My mother’s going to kill me. She says pregnant brides are tacky.”

She burst into a fresh set of tears. Murmuring comforting words, Elliot craned her neck to read the test results. A smiley face. Did that mean pregnant or not pregnant? She sighed. Of course it meant pregnant.

“Do you want to talk to your fiancé?”

The bride shook her head, sniffing and fighting back hiccups. “It’s bad luck to see him before the wedding.”

Elliot counted to ten before speaking. “A woman makes her own luck.”

“Telling him would only make him nervous,” the bride said.

“Maybe I can pretend this is a honeymoon baby . . .”

Elliot knew she should try to talk sense into the woman. The groom was smart enough to do math. Their parents and everyone else would be able to crunch the numbers, too. But facts wouldn’t save the bride’s wedding, or make her feel any better. A fresh coat of waterproof mascara and some hairspray might.

It only took Elliot five more minutes to comfort her client. Still puffy eyed, the bride pulled herself together for another hair and makeup session to repair the damage. Leaving the cosmetologists to their work, Elliot closed the bathroom door and leaned against the frame to draw a breath.

“Crap.”

Much as she would have liked to hide behind a pew in the chapel, Elliot pushed away from the door. She had a wedding to run.

Rounding the corner, she found the TV show’s camera crew following the ongoing battle between the mothers of the bride and groom. She said a silent prayer of thanks they’d missed her situation with the bride. Unless they’d picked it up on her microphone, which was possible.

“Crap. Crap.”

If the bride wanted to convince her family and friends she’d conceived a baby on her honeymoon and not before the wedding, having the truth broadcast on The Marrying Type would undoubtedly blow her cover.

Elliot still couldn’t wrap her brain around how quickly the show had come together. What surprised her most was how fast the network released advertisements for the show. They weren’t even done filming the first episode, but ads were running every hour.

Elliot snagged Claire, her assistant, as the young woman walked by. She needed an update on the florist, who was more than an hour late.

“I haven’t heard anything,” Claire said, her attention focused on the fight brewing across the room.

“Get them on the phone. We wanted the bouquets an hour ago.”

“But . . .” Claire gazed longingly toward the more exciting issue at hand.

“I’ll handle the moms.” Elliot played with the pearl pendant on her necklace while she considered her various crises. “Call the florist. And grab the bride a bottle of water and some crackers from my emergency stash.”

“Want me to take her some champagne?”

“No champagne.” Claire raised an eyebrow at her terse response. Elliot cleared her throat and plastered a smile on her face.

“She’s sensitive to alcohol. One drink, and she’ll be stumbling down the aisle. We need a sober bride for the ceremony.”

My Review:

I loved The Marrying Type. I would give it 5 Daisy’s.  It was easy to read and hard to put down.  I liked the characters and the story.

Elliott was a wedding planner at her family’s business.  In order to keep the business a float she signed on to do a Reality TV Show about planning weddings.  I love all the crises that Elliott solves one after another.  Then one of the brides she was working with was Eric’s (here college boyfriend) sister, Sadie. Elliott was hoping that there would not be much contact between her and Eric, but that was not the case.  Eric and Sadie were close and she wanted his help. Eric also was a millionaire now ~ so when he was around they wanted him on the show. How could Elliott see him and not feel the pain of the break-up? Did Eric feel the same? Read The Marrying Type and find out!
