I have been talking about doing things for me this year and becoming more healthy so I was excited to try this set called JumpStart 180.  It is a 8 week Low Impact Exercise System designed for men and women 50+ who are beginning to exercise. These low impact routines are effective for beginners, people in chronic pain, those recovering from surgeries (hip and knee replacements, rotator cuff repairs, neck and back surgery, heart surgery and MORE), and even as a gift for your parents or grandparents.  I wish I had these when Rex had his rotator cuff surgery.

What I really liked is that it had 7 different workouts that lasted 30 minutes and they were easy to follow.  It also comes with a workbook so you can track your progress.  It had a calendar so you would know what work outs to do each day.

I have been switching these up with a couple other DVD’s I have and find that I really enjoy the variety this set has.  It also has an advanced exercise routine – so if you have been working out for awhile you don’t get bored.  It has something for everyone.

I think this would be a great gift for an aging parent or grandparent.  If you would like to purchase this set for yourself or someone you know you can find it on the link below from Amazon.com.

JumpStart 180 would also like to give one of my readers a set of these DVD and work book.  It is going to be a quick turnaround so watch your email – the giveaway ends Feb 3rd and I will need a response the next day.  You must be 18+ US, DC.  Leave a comment on who this would be for.  Extra entries for each way you follow Kaisy Daisy’s Corner. Giveaway ends Feb 3, 2015.

Please fill out the form HERE to enter.

One of my favorite from this cookbook was BBQ Chicken Pizza. Both Rex and I loved it. What I liked is that it was pretty easy to make and didn’t take long to put together. Another recipe I really enjoyed was the Fully Loaded Burgers – instead of a bun it was wrapped in lettuce leaf. There are a few more recipes I can’t wait to try. I can see I will use The Recipe Hacker a lot.

IMG_0975I don’t think it matters how old you are you still get either a pimple or blackhead.  That is why I still use Bioré’s Cleansing Pore Strips.  These strips have been around for a long time I remember using them when I was a teenager. They really help your skin get a deep clean.

Bioré’s classic Deep Cleansing Pore Strips can be worn for just 15 minutes while you go about your routine. These strips, with selective bonding ingredients, work like a magnet by instantly locking onto and removing deep-down dirt that can cause blackheads so you get the deepest clean. When used weekly, you will have fewer clogged pores and the appearance of pores will actually diminish.  I am always surprised when I use one how much it actually helps.

IMG_0973Bioré Skincare also has this Self Heating One Minute Mask: This thermal 1-minute mask warms to open pores, and draws out and dissolves 2.5 times more dirt, oil, and surface toxins than a basic cleanse.

Heats on contact with water to open pores and draw out pore-clogging dirt and oil, then cools leaving skin tingly smooth and refreshed.

I really like this product and try to use it at least once a week.  The first time I used it I was surprised at how hot it gets.  It felt good and my skin looked great when I was finished using it.

Bioré Skincare has a great line of skincare good for teenagers on up.  You can find all of these products and a few more nationwide at stores like Target and Walmart.

Gifts From Home That Any College Student Would Love

What parent doesn’t want to ensure that their child who is away at college isn’t happy? Gifts from home are always welcome, so make sure you send one that is well appreciated by our future scholar. I remember when I went to school in California – I would get little packages that had things I couldn’t find ~ one thing was this powder mix called Ice Teasers. Not sure they make it any more.

Gift Cards

Most college students are on a tight budget, so they have little money to spend on frivolities. These cards can be for something fun or useful. Grocery store gifts cards are always welcome, as well as those for pizza places close by. An office supply store card is always helpful to pay for those extra expenses like copying, printing or collating as well as computer supplies.

Care Packages

A care package can be as simple as a box filled with your student’s favorite non-perishable foods and sweets. For special occasions like birthdays, it is always nice to let an expert like BisketBaskets.com deliver a specially crafted gift basket full of tasty treats.

Gas Cards and Bus Passes

If your student has a car, a gas card will be helpful to finance regular shopping trips or even better, a trip home on holidays. A student without a car will need a bus pass to move around town if their college doesn’t provide one, so these can ensure your student makes it back and forth to where he needs to be on time.

Especially during their first year away from home, your college student needs to feel your love. Gifts from home that are useful and sometimes frivolous will help make the transition easier.

In honor of the angels in Of Love & Magic, Christina Dymock with Hungry Family has created an amazing chocolate angel cake recipe. I can’t wait to try it out.
Chocolate Angel Food Cake

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup egg whites (10-12 large eggs)
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup flour
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 ounces milk chocolate, shredded
2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions

Place the egg whites and cream of tartar in a metal mixing bowl. Beat until stiff peaks form and the whites are glossy. Add the vanilla and beat well.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, powdered sugar, cocoa, baking soda, salt, and shredded chocolate. Fold 1/2 cup of the powdered mixture into the egg whites. Repeat until all the flour mixture is incorporated into the eggs.
Pour batter into a non-stick angel food cake or bunt cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 -35 minutes or until cake springs back. Run a knife around the edge of the pan and invert the pan onto a funnel or cup and allow to cool for 2 hours. Remove the cake from the pan and serve with fresh whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

NBTMR_TourBanner_MovingOn

Cover_MovingOnMoving On

by Annette Bower

BLURB:

Anna Jenkins, a mysterious woman arrives in the resort town of Regina Beach as the heir to a cottage, even though there isn’t an obvious family connection. The residents of the town know everyone’s business and they are very keen on discovering Anna’s secrets. Anna meets Nick Donnelly with a secret of his own. As a soldier, the injuries he sustained in an IED explosion were greater than most people realize.

During his rehabilitation, Nick and Anna become friends. Nick begins to dream of a life on the land with a family of his own. When Anna discovers that Nick plans to return to active duty, she puts the brakes on loving a man who might die because of his career. Nick must convince Anna they have a future to live for.

Moving On: Sweet contemporary romance with an heiress, a soldier, a small town and secrets.

Excerpt:

Anna was drawn to the large windows that revealed small waves washing onto the shore while his voice rose and fell in the background. She jumped when Nick spoke from behind her. “Looks like you’ve got a big job to make this old man’s house a place you’d want to live.” He had picked up a ship in a bottle and held it to the light.

She stood with determined confidence. “They say work is good therapy.” She felt a pang of intuitive kinship with him again, and smiled. “Do you ever wonder if they really know what they are talking about?”

Nick raised his hand and gently touched the side of her face, turning it toward him. He looked deep into her eyes as if searching for recognition. “Yeah, they’re probably just a bunch of clowns who think up Pollyanna sayings to make us feel better about our lives.”

She would have returned that gentle touch in a moment of shared intimacy, if his stance hadn’t changed. He shifted away from her as if he sensed danger. Nick pivoted on his rubber-soled boots and almost leapt through the door. The moment was thick with uncertainty.

She caught a chuckle that ended up more of a snort. They were like two wounded animals who suddenly found themselves in the same pen, wondering who was stronger and would survive. Surely she wasn’t attracted to Nick Donnelly just because they were both grieving their severed pasts.

My Review:

I would give Moving On 5 Daisy’s!  It is a story about secrets and moving on.  Anna and Murray were about to be married when an accident happened an Murray died.  Anna had a hard time moving on in with her job and the in the same town.  She decided she wanted to go someplace no one knew her.  She moved to the resort town of Regina Beach as the heir to a cottage that Murray had been given.  There she met the older couple next door Margaret and Herman.  Not much happened in the town with out them and everyone else knowing it.  They wanted to know more about Anna but she kept quiet.  She found she had no water in the cottage and needed to have it turned on the next day.  Margaret directed her to Donnelly Bed and Breakfast for the night.  That is were she met Nick who also had some secrets. Moving On was a fast read and I enjoyed every page. You will need to read Moving On to learn what secrets Anna and Nike have.

MBB_TourBanner_APerfectCatch

Cover_APerfectCatchA Perfect Catch

by Anna Sugden

BLURB:

He’s the perfect catch…for now!

When it comes to romance, Tracy Hayden is not looking for a rematch. She’s had epic passion—and problems!—with professional hockey player Ike Jelinek. Brilliant on skates and magic in bed, his too-traditional-for-her views were like a bucket of ice water on their affair.

Then an injury takes Ike out of the game, and everything changes. Suddenly he needs her services-providing business—even though he once claimed it was their biggest problem. Tracy’s determined to be professional, despite the sizzling attraction between them that won’t go away. Maybe they need a second fling to fix that!

EXCERPTS:

By unspoken agreement, they walked back to¬ward Maggie’s hospital room.

“Are you starting in goal again tomorrow night, bro?”

“For sure.” Ike appreciated the change of subject. “What about you? Are you playing? Did the extra practice sessions help?”

Kenny’s confidence had been knocked when Coach Macarty had made him a healthy scratch for the past couple of games. Ike had reassured him that it wasn’t unusual for a player in his first season with an NHL team to struggle—the game was much faster and harder than in the minors—but his brother wouldn’t be happy until he was back in the lineup.

“Coach said he’d let me know in the morning.” Kenny sighed. “It wasn’t so bad. Watching from the press box gave me a different perspective on how the game is played here, so my positioning on the wing should be better. I just need a chance to put what I’ve learned into practice.”

Ike clapped his brother on the back. “Keep at it, kid, and after the All-Star break in January, it’ll click.”

“I hope so. I want to do my part, but I feel like I’m a step slower than everyone else.”

“Right now, we all need to pick up our play, and that includes our big-money guys.”

The Cats’ start to the new season had been okay, but not great. They were fourth in their division and a couple of places out of a playoff spot in the East¬ern Conference. But their points tally masked the real win-loss picture; the extra points they’d gotten for going to overtime or a shoot-out blurred the fact that they’d lost every freaking one.

Man, he hated shoot-outs and not just because he was 0-for-4 so far. Damn skills contest. They might as well toss a freaking coin. The Cats had lost a couple of their shoot-out stars when his brother Tru had moved to Denver and Vlad had returned to Russia, and to date no one else had stepped up. Sure, Ike could do better, too, but he needed a little help from his teammates. Like at least one of them could score. Then again, they weren’t scoring much during regulation, either. Worse, they couldn’t hold on to a one-goal lead. The number of times the Cats had given up the tying goal in the last two minutes of a game was plain crazy.

They were all adjusting to the new coach’s “run and gun” style. The veterans, like Ike, Jake and the captain, Scotty Matthews, preferred a more defen¬sively responsible system, where even their best forwards would back-check to help out. The kids liked the focus on offence, but tended to be a bit wild. Shots on net hadn’t gone up. Goals sure as hell hadn’t, either. Ike had had to play out of his mind to scrape the wins they’d got.

Still, Kenny needed reassurance from his oldest brother, not a lecture. “The season’s only a month old. Things’ll get better. Besides, everyone has to sit out at some point in their career. Even JB Larocque.”

“Sure, but no one’s going to send a superstar like JB down to the minors if he doesn’t deliver. I don’t want to go back to riding the bus now that I’ve made it to the show.”

Jake came out of Maggie’s room in time to hear Kenny’s words. “Hang in there, bro. It’ll work out.”

Kenny grinned. He didn’t stay down about any¬thing too long. “If you old guys say so, I guess I’ll be okay.”

Ike cuffed his brother around the head. “You need to learn to respect your elders and betters, brat.”

“Yeah, but I’m only seeing elders here.”

“We old guys have clout with the boss. You don’t want to be benched because you gave us too much lip.” Despite Ike’s ribbing, he was proud to have Kenny playing alongside him.

“This is why I need Tru here.” Kenny shook his head. “He has a sense of humor.”

“Speaking of which, I called him to give him the news,” Jake said. “He’s going to try to stay an extra day when the Avalanche comes east in December.”

“It’ll be good to see him.” Ike grinned. “It feels weird not to have him skating with us.”

They’d all been shocked when the Cats had shown Tru the door during the off-season instead of re-upping his contract. Hardshaw and Macarty had favored the Canucks’ stud defenseman, Troy David¬son, over the second-oldest Jelinek brother. Unfor¬tunately, Davidson hadn’t yet shown the form he’d had in Vancouver, which had made Tru’s absence more difficult.

“Yeah.” Jake sighed. “At least he’s enjoying Den¬ver. He’s slotted into the team well and the Avs are doing better than anyone expected.”

“That’s because we taught him everything he knows,” Ike said loftily.

They all laughed as they headed back into the hospital room.

Despite his best intentions, Ike’s heart squeezed when he saw Tracy cradling baby Joe.

When I was young I use to collect stamps.  I was interested in them because my Mom and one of my sisters had pen pals from all over the world.  I thought the stamps were really interesting.  I also had a friend – Robin who’s mom had pen palls all over and let us have the stamps.

Stamp collecting has been one of the world’s most popular hobbies since the first postage stamp was issued in Britain in 1840. Almost immediately, people began collecting postage stamps and by the mid-to-late 1800s, the hobby was a phenomena. In the U.S. alone, there are an estimated 5 million stamp collectors. Some famous stamp collectors include U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt, Warren Buffet, James Earl Jones, and John Lennon.

Stamp collecting is considered both a hobby and a science, with those who collect and study stamps often being referred to as philatelists. Philatelists are interested in both the historic and geographic aspects of postage stamps and often fill huge books with their collections. Stamps depict a variety of subjects, ranging from landmarks to famous figures and works of art. Often countries will produce special, limited edition stamps just for stamp collectors. Philatelists also often collect envelops, mail labels, postage meters, and other stamp-related parphenalia.

Stamp collectors acquire stamps in a number of ways. Many ask their friends and family to save stamps that they receive on mail, or inherent large stamp collections. There are also a number of exhibitions and stamp shows all over the world, which stamp enthusaiasts can attend to buy, sell, and trade stamps. The most common means of acquiring stamps, however, is through shops and online retailers. These store owners (whether brick and mortar or virtual) often sell stamp lots and collections at large discounts, allowing collectors to find a variety of unique items. Bruce MacDonald Stamps is one example of an online retailer where you can find rare stamps, along with collections and lots.
