I don’t know about you but during the holidays one of the last things I do is think about saving money or achieving financial peace of mind. While you may have gifts, greetings and get-togethers on the brain, it’s important not to lose sight of your financial goals. All of Capital One 360’s Black Friday Sale deals are designed to encourage consumers to keep their finances top of mind.

When you hear of “financial peace of mind” what does that mean to you? To me it is to have money in case of an emergency, so I started an emergency fund. For a few years when I was married my ex-husband wasn’t working and living on my paycheck was very tough.  Some weeks not even knowing if I would have enough money for gas in my car to get me to work.  If anything major happened I don’t know what we would have done.  I had no savings, no emergency fund.  One of my friends gave me this idea of what her family did.  They saved $5 bills.  Anytime the got change and there was a $5 in it she put it away.  Well I can’t save $5 at a time but I can save all of my $1.  Ever time I get a $1 I don’t spend it.  They add up faster than you think.

Financial peace of mind could mean many different things it could be paying your bills on time and avoiding unnecessary fees or establishing and sticking to a reasonable and responsible budget.  What ever it means to you Capital One 360 products are designed to save consumers time and money. From online to our mobile app, Capital One 360 is with customers 24/7. In addition to taking advantage of deals on banking, brokerage and mortgage products yourself, you can give your friends and family the gift of financial peace of mind by encouraging them to take advantage of the deals and refer them to the sale. If they sign up, you may be eligible for a $40 referral bonus.

I have been looking for a cute easy to do centerpiece for my side table.  I want something that is easy and something I could keep out a bit longer than just the holidays.  Here is what I found on Sweet Something Design.

bottlesOn this centerpiece they used sheet music and glitter and Mod Podge to hold it all together.  I have so many ideas of what you could do with these bottles.

I was thinking of maybe getting some pretty paper with snowflakes on it and wrapping a strip around the middle and then using Mod Podge to hold it in place.  I would decorate it with some silver or white snowflakes and ribbon.  I would also add glitter to make it sparkle.  I would put branches wrapped with lights in the bottles.

Or maybe group 3 bottles together and put JOY using a letter on each bottle.  The ideas are endless!

If you have any cute ideas I would love to hear them!  For the instructions on how to make this centerpiece you can go HERE on Sweet Something Design.

One of my friends daughter is going to medical school and she found out that living here in Oregon we never get enough Vitamin D from the sun.  Something about how strong the sun is or isn’t here.  When ever I go to the doctor one of the things I find out from my blood test is that my vitamin D is very low. I have been taking extra vitamin D for years.  Vitamin D is like the wonder vitamin for your body.  Vitamin D is linked to pretty much every age related disorder including cancer and chronic inflammation. Studies have repeatedly shown that higher levels of vitamin D are directly associated with few instances of cold, flu, and other types of infections.

I was happy to try Natures True Medicine Vitamin D3.   Here is some information regarding Natures True Medicine Vitamin D3:

  • Pure, Potent and all Natural Vitamin D3
  • No junky fillers, all of the good none of the bad!!
  • Independent 3rd party lab tested, Made in USA
  • 2,000 IU per easy to swallow softgel
  • Money Back Guarantee, 100% safe and effective
  • Guaranteed GMO Free

I like that they are made here in the USA and also have no bad fillers.  I also like that the softgel capsules absorb rapidly into your blood stream.

If you would like to purchase Natures True Medicine Vitamin D3 you can do so on the link below from Amazon.com.

My Review:

I have read a couple of the books in this  Betsy Livingston mystery series.  I love the little town of Pecan Bayou.  Betsy is nine months pregnant and trying to help solve who is stealing the landmark status in town. Her husband is busy working as a weatherman with a hurricane coming in and the two boys are at camp for the month getting into trouble.  Once you start reading this book you will not be able to put it down. You will fall in love with this series as I did.

Do you have a favorite Christmas book?  Each year a new book that has meaning comes out and I think this years is The 13th Gift: A True Story of a Christmas Miracle.  It is one of the best stories I have read in a long time. cover51728-medium

Description

For readers of Richard Paul Evans and Greg Kincaid comes The 13th Gift, a heartwarming Christmas story about how a random act of kindness transformed one of the bleakest moments in a family’s history into a time of strength and love.

After the unexpected death of her husband, Joanne Huist Smith had no idea how she would keep herself together and be strong for her three children–especially with the holiday season approaching. But 12 days before Christmas, presents begin appearing on her doorstep with notes from their “True Friends.” As the Smiths came together to solve the mystery of who the gifts were from, they began to thaw out from their grief and come together again as a family. This true story about the power of random acts of kindness will warm the heart, a beautiful reminder of the miracles of Christmas and the gift of family during the holiday season.

About the Author

Joanne Huist Smith is a native of Dayton, OH. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English at Wright State University and worked as a reporter for the Dayton Daily News. She is the mother of three and grandmother of two.

My Review:

This is a true story and it really touched my heart.  The family going through the first year after their father dies.  No one really can get into the Christmas mood until presents start appearing on the door step.  Each day with a note that says from their “True Friends”.  The family can’t wait to see what the next days gift is and who is giving the presents.  They keep trying to figure out who is giving them the presents.

This is a very heart warming story of family and friends and I would recommend it for anyone to read.  You can purchase The 13th Gift on the link below at Amazon.com.

About LAST CHANCE FAMILY

Mike Taggart has always been willing to take a gamble. But these stakes are just way too high – there’s no way he’s prepared to become a legal guardian to his five-year-old niece. His only option is to head from Las Vegas to Last Chance to sort things out as quickly as possible. Problem is, he arrives to find an inconsolable little girl, her sick cat, and a gorgeous veterinarian he can’t get out of his mind. Charlene Polk has two talents: healing sick critters and falling in love with the wrong men. Mike has trouble written all over him, but she can’t leave him in the lurch. And the more time she spends with the sexy high roller, the more she sees that this ready-made family is the best stroke of luck they’ve ever had . . .

Book Excerpt:

Charlene stood in the kitchen doorway, her hair wet, her stomach empty, and her heart suddenly racing. Mike leaned against the counter, his head hung low. He seemed to be struggling to draw breath.

She crossed the room and put her hand on the middle of his back. His T-shirt was soft, the body beneath it hard and warm.

He straightened and let out a big breath. “Sorry.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Killer heartburn,” he said, then immediately changed the subject. He moved toward the coffee maker, shaking off her touch. “You want some coffee?”

He turned and gave her a quick glance. That’s all it took.

Her heart wrenched, and she responded the way she always did when confronted with unspoken pain. She encountered it often, usually in the eyes of animals. But it was there, beyond that mild-mannered expression he tried to wear. He was hurting. She reached up to stroke his cheek. Her fingers encountered his warm skin and rough stubble. That touch flipped her switch. Electricity flowed inside her.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath as her fingers moved over his face to his ear and up into his bright red hair.

“Don’t,” he whispered, but he made no attempt to move away. He reminded her of an abused animal that growls when all he wants is a little kindness. She cupped the nape of his neck and pulled him down as she rose up on tip-toes.

She gave him a soft, gentle kiss. Nothing deep or sexy, just a little kiss, intended to comfort. But it didn’t stay that way. Mike grabbed her by the cheeks and pulled her up into it like a man starving for love. His tongue stroked hers. His right hand dropped to her hip, and he yanked her forward and into his chest.

Her knees almost buckled. But she didn’t fall, because Mike had her. His hand found the small of her back as he sagged against the counter. They leaned together, thigh to thigh, chest to chest. The kiss turned utterly carnal. His hand wandered up over her spine to her breast. He palmed it. Her nipples came alive. He groaned.

And her whole body throbbed.

She broke the kiss and looked up into his face. His eyes had dilated with desire. His breath sounded ragged. His skin flushed red.

“I want you,” he said in a hoarse voice. “I want to strip you naked and do it right here in the kitchen.”

His words ignited a bad-girl fire that pretty much torched her reservations about him. “Okay.”

His gaze widened. “I’m not a reliable bet,” he said.

She laughed. “You think I don’t know that?”

“Oh.”

She could almost feel him having second thoughts. And she had no intention of allowing that. She’d have the rest of her life to regret this choice. Or not.

Which would she regret more? Letting her reservations about him put the kibosh on this? Or spending the rest of her life wondering if maybe she should have bet on Mike Taggart?

Heartbreak was her middle name. “I’m a gambler,” she whispered. “And sometimes the long shots pay off.”

“Not usually,” he said.

“Maybe not. But I’m the eternal optimist.”Will

My Review:

I know your not suppose to judge a book by the cover  ~ but I would read this just because the cover is so cute. Who could resist such cute kittens? I have read a few books by Hope Ramsay and I have loved them all.  In this book Mike is taking care of Rainbow his niece and her cat.  When he falls for the veterinary assistant at Creature Comforts Animal Hospital and also her neighbor.  They are from two different worlds. This was a great story and one I am sure anyone would enjoy.

50 days of Christimas

Do you remember getting one of the advent calendars when you were younger.  We received them a couple of times – each day you would open a window and there would be a piece of candy in the window.  I decided to do something like that for Rex and his son Joey.  Only I am doing it with gifts. IMG_0890(1)  Here is one of the baskets.  I got them both ready over the weekend and starting on Dec 1 they will start opening the gifts one each day until Christmas.

The gifts are nothing fancy – most of them are pretty goofy.  I was able to get most of the gifts from the Dollar Tree StIMG_0886ore.  I was able to find things like a deck of cards, plastic yo-yo, small note book, Peeps, chocolate, pez, hand warmer, flash light, different kinds of candy that they like, gloves and hat.  It was fun seeing what I could find.

You could also do this with coupons using things your family would like.  Maybe something like No emptying the dishwasher today, or I will read an extra book to you tonight, or Stay up 30 minutes later than your bed time.  There are 100’s of things you could use for the coupons.

You could combine the two of them do half gifts and half coupons.  It would be a fun tradition to start.

I am excited for December 1 to come.  I can’t wait to see Rex and his Son’s faces when I tell them about their baskets. What traditions does you family have?
